Santai Sejenak – The first PPI Liverpool Social Gathering in 2021

Contributor: Joseph Daniel

On April 6th, a week after the UK government allowed the outdoor social gathering of a maximum of 6 people/2 households in England as a part of its gradual nationwide lockdown easing plans, PPI Greater Liverpool held its first social gathering in 2021.

The event took place at Stanley Park, a beautiful park that separates the home base of two football giants of Liverpool – Liverpool FC’s Anfield and Everton FC’s Goodison Park. It would be easy to agree that this social gathering is a much-needed event for PPI Liverpool members who have been dealing with varying measures of social restrictions imposed by the UK Government since the beginning of 2020 to control the raging coronavirus pandemic. The last PPI Liverpool social gathering was in February 2020, before the 1st nationwide lockdown in the UK.

The Internal Division team of PPI Liverpool was excited and had worked hard to prepare for this event. They announced the information approximately a week before the event, highlighting that the main purpose of the gathering is to facilitate the PPI members to catch up, hang out, and get to know each other, especially those who just come to study at Liverpool at the beginning of 2020/2021 academic term. There will be outdoor games with interesting prizes, snacks, and drinks for those who want to hang out and catch up during the event. The event is called Santai Sejenak, which properly indicating the purposes as mentioned above.

During the event, it was a sunny day in Liverpool, though a bit windy. The Internal Division team arrived at Stanley Park around 1.30 PM to start preparing everything, and the event started around 3 PM. Pungky, Dhila, Dinar, and Andi prepared the games and prizes, and they have also surveyed the location a day before. The Karyonos – Mas Kar and Mbak Lisa – prepared and run the COVID-19 Antigen Test for everyone who has confirmed to come. Yes, even though the lockdown measures have been eased, we still have to follow the government rules and prioritise safety first. We also had a guest from PPI Glasgow who joins us to have some fun. Thank you Wienda for your participation.

The event was a success! Everybody had fun. Just take a look at the pictures below:

Dinar, Mira, Wienda, Bli Sena, and Firman at Post 3. They have just finished the jumbled words game. Would you like to guess how many stars that they collect in this post?

Carissa, Aldo, Joseph, and Jennifer. Not only obeying the facemask rule, but they also finish the games perfectly by collecting 20 stars. Do you agree if we call them ... errm … Fantastic Four?

Even though Liverpool has a world-famous tradition in music, believe me, these guys are not a boyband.

Carissa, Aldo, Jennifer, Pungky, Avis and Joseph at the last post next to the Goodison Park Stadium.

Participants from the local residents.

Prize-awarding session.
